ABOUT THIS CHURCH

The site of a mediaeval church, St Swithin’s was constructed to designs by Peter Atkinson in 1820. This church was taken down below the window sills and rebuilt in yellow brick by Smith & Broderick in 1886. The unique c13 coffin lid is most notable with foliate cross and also a chalice and a hand taking a wafer with inscription in Norman-French.
